The Brief

The successful owners of Glasgow's family-friendly Di Maggio's
restaurants wanted to branch out, with the aim of providing a chic
and modern dining alternative to the traditional Italian pizzeria. The
new basement-level premises, however, would be a challenging
space for Constructive's design team to manipulate.

The Solution

To compensate for the lack of natural light, Constructive designed a
beguiling entrance, whose opaque walls are lit by a shifting spectrum
of colours. The dining space flaunts a contemporary elegance: rich
walnut panelling and solid oak flooring contrast beautifully against
vanilla-coloured walls, whilst the modern lighting endows the neutral
colour scheme with a vibrant splash of hot pink. The influence of
Amarone itself is evident by way of an impressive gantry, which
displays the restaurant's fine selection of Italian wines.

The Result

The atmosphere achieved in Amarone reveals a smooth, sleek and
modern side to Italy and its famed cuisine. The restaurant has been
rewarded by a steady stream of customers, and a nomination for
Best Italian Restaurant at the Scottish Restaurant Awards.
