The Brief

The Italian Caffè in Glasgow's bustling Merchant City was intended to
introduce a new style of eatery to Scotland. An enoteca is a traditional
Italian winery that offers customers the chance to sample and buy
regional wines whilst enjoying rustic, tapas-style snacks. Incorporating
this concept, Constructive aimed to create a sophisticated yet
casual environment that exudes contemporary design.

The Solution

The warm, relaxed atmosphere achieved in The Italian Caffè is
distinctly European, effectively marrying elements of Italian culture
and sleek, modern design. Caravaggio paintings provide a subtle
reference to the Italian Baroque, whilst flashes of stainless steel and
glass punctuate traditional materials such as walnut wood, marble
and olive-green leather. The extensive wine collection is an important
feature of the space, impressively displayed by way of a ceilingheight
gantry.

The Result

Since opening its doors, The Italian Caffè has proved to be a
resounding success. In addition, Constructive's work was
recognised with a Scottish Design Award nomination in the Interior
Design category.

"The Italian Caffè has certainly caused quite a
buzz, with our food and wine receiving
excellent feedback from both critics and
customers. All in all, I'm thrilled with the
business and delighted with the way it looks.
