The Brief

Looking to expand his successful Two Fat Ladies brand, restaurateur
James Ryan chose to revive one of Glasgow's oldest restaurants,
The Buttery, which had recently suffered the effects of a fire.
Constructive was tasked to restore the premises to its former glory.

The Solution

Constructive had eight weeks to transform the space available,
which included maximising the number of covers the restaurant
could hold. The design fuses Edwardian elegance and Highland
comfort: traditional oak panelling, tartan carpeting and etched glass
are given a twist with quirky finishing touches, whilst homely
armchairs and lampshades add a sense of warmth.

the Result

Since its opening, restaurant critics have been quick to praise the
inviting, charming ambience achieved in Two Fat Ladies at The
Buttery. As well as The List Readers Award for Best Newcomer and
a Scotland Food & Drink Award for Best Brand, in October 2008
The Buttery was awarded the Remy Martin Accolade for Best
Restaurant (Scotland).

"Having successfully collaborated with
Constructive before, we knew that the
designers had a very good eye. They didn't
disappoint, and immediately understood our
vision for The Buttery: the need to preserve an
iconic institution whilst simultaneously creating
a new and exciting restaurant.
